WHAT I BELIEVE
Biblical Wisdom for Understanding Our Purpose
Scripture That Shapes My Personal Perspective of Life
Did you know, God’s Word is perfect? When we pursue God, we will find our understanding of life and purpose grounded in what He shares with us in scripture. The following passages as impacted my life in a great way and have expanded and my understanding of who I have been created to be and how to live.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NKJV): “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
This passage emphasizes that all Scripture is from God. It should be the central truth in which we see life through as set standard. The world gives us opinions. The Bible is Truth.
Colossians 1:15-17 (NKJV): “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.”
This passage declares that Jesus Christ is ultimately supreme. He the creator and sustainer of all things. Our very breathe is held in His hands.
John 3:16 (NKJV): “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
This verse highlights God’s immense love for the world, demonstrated by giving His only Son so that we may have eternal life. His heart is that the WHOLE world would turn and trust Him. God desires a relationship that lasts into eternity.
Ephesians 2:8-9 (NKJV): “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”
Salvation is a gift from God received through faith, not by our own efforts or works. Our best does not qualify our justification and redemption, only Jesus.
James 2:26 (NKJV): “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.”
Faith, if not accompanied by action, is lifeless. If we know, trust and follow Jesus, we should live a life that reflects Him.
2 Peter 3:9 (NKJV): “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.”
God is patient and desires that everyone should come to repentance, not wanting anyone to perish.
Ephesians 2:10 (NKJV): “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”
We belong to God. Through Christ, we are called to live our life’s dedicated to do good works, which God has already planned for us to carry out.
Mark 12:30-31 (NKJV): “And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
These verses highlight the main purpose of our lives is to love God wholeheartedly and to love others as much as we would love ourselves. This is centralized to all that we do; from a place of loving God and others.
Matthew 28:18-20 (NKJV): “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ Amen.”
Jesus commands His followers to spread the gospel, baptize believers, and teach them to follow His teachings, assuring them of His presence until the end of time. Overall, we should make discipling others one of our main priorities as Christ commands.
Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV): “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”
Faith is essential for pleasing God; one must believe in His existence and His reward for those who earnestly and continually seek Him. The more we trust Him, the more we experience His grace, presence and favor.
Matthew 6:9-13 (NKJV):
“In this manner, therefore, pray:
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”
The Lord’s Prayer is a model for prayer, focusing on honoring God, seeking His will, asking for daily provision, forgiveness, and protection from evil, while acknowledging His eternal sovereignty. Daily.
